Unit 1

Immortality – ability to live forever

Botany – a branch of science that studies plants and plant life

Indigenous – living or growing naturally in a place

Enhance – to improve or make better

Progenitor – direct ancestor

Modification - change

Vitality – strength or power

Resistant – having the ability to fight against

Native – occurring naturally in a certain place

Innate – inborn or naturally there

Gene – the tiny element n a living person or animal that decides what characteristics its offspring
               will inherit

Genetics – the branch of biology that studies inherited qualities in living things

Morgue – a place where dead bodies are kept

Renaissance – rebirth or renewal

Prenatal – relating to or happening before birth

Generate – to create or produce

Morbid – too concerned with death, disease, decay, or other gruesome matters

Nascent – coming into being, developing, or beginning

Genesis – the beginning or birth of something

Mortify – to embarrass, shame, or make to feel foolish

Organic- using or grown with materials that come from plants or animals and not from man-made

                    materials

Pesticide – something such as a chemical that is used to kill insects and other pests

Agrarian – relating to farmers or farming

Fertility – the ability to produce crops

Compost – a mixture of decayed plant matter, such as leaves and grass clippings, that is used to
                    improve the
soil.

Arbor – a shaded area often covered with vines or flowers

Foliage – leaves on trees or plants

Flora – the plants that are typical of a certain place or time

Herbaceous – having the characteristics of green and leafy plants such as herbs

        Verdant – green with leaves or other growing plants
