Project Directions:

Task:  You have almost completed your 3 years at JAMS.  You have been asked to create a brochure that will help incoming 5th graders as they transition to middle school life at JAMS.

You will be Working both inidvidually and in a teacher-created small group of 2-3,must brainstorm, draft, and create a brochure for 5th graders, soon to be 6th graders coming to JAMS.  The brochure should include the fun-filled facts they will need to know to be happy and successful at JAMS,, but information that is NOT already contained in the handbook, along with survival tips and possible activities they could join.  Think of the knowledge you have that a new students to the building needs.  For example, at the elementary schools, the teachers collect and keep the lunch tickets after each lunch period.  At JAMS, it is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their own lunch ticket.  Think of things a new 6th grader needs to know.

Be as creative and encouraging as possible and make your brochure on that will help the next class of students to grace the halls of JAMS.

Step 1:

Individually, brainstorm the knowledge you have that a new student to the building won't have. For example, at the elementary schools, the teachers collect and keep the lunch tickets after each lunch period. At John Adams, it is the student's responsibility to keep track of their own lunch ticket.

Step 2:

In small groups, divide up the information your groups deemed important and weed out the unnecessary information. Each person is responsible for two columns!

Step 3:

At the computer lab, create your two columns (complete with pictures, clipart, word art, and attention to brochure format). Turn in a hard copy of your two columns individually, then combine your two columns with your partner's to create a full brochure, and turn in a hard copy of the final product.
